Former President Barack Obama and his family recently closed on the acquisition of a waterfront home on Martha’s Vineyard, an exclusive island off the coast of Massachusetts, for $11.75 million. And it is magnificent.

 

The enormous 6,892-square-foot home has views of the Atlantic Ocean and is situated on roughly 30 private acres fronting the Edgartown Great Pond between Slough Cove and Turkeyland Cove. 

The house, which was designed by Taylor Lombardo Architects in San Francisco, was constructed in 2001 by John Early, a renowned and highly regarded Island builder. And it’s in a place the Obamas adore—it goes without saying that they frequently visit Martha’s Vineyard for leisure time.

The Obama family has really made Martha’s Vineyard an annual vacation destination since their tenure in the White House, and they are now establishing ties to the lovely villa that they rented during the summer.

 

The house has multiple stone fireplaces, seven bedrooms, and eight and a half bathrooms. There is a pool, a detached barn, and a two-car garage.

Since the Obamas stayed at the home for a few weeks in late summer 2019, rumors of the upcoming sale have been swirling. Throughout the summer vacation, the family is frequently spotted on the Vineyard.

Presidents Clinton and Kennedy both spent the holidays in this region with their families, making it a popular vacation destination for politicians and celebrities. A former president hasn’t previously purchased a residence on the island, though.

 

For seven of the eight years he served as president, the former president and his family spent a portion of every August on the Island.

 

The family has previously traveled to the Island, notably when he was an Illinois senator.

 

The Obama residence has a sizable kitchen and a dining room with stunning views of the bay since it was built with entertaining in mind.

There is also enough of space for resting in the family area below. The home has many interesting architectural features, including those on the ceiling of this room.

 

The new Obama home also features a beautiful galleried living area with windows on three sides. 

 

Since being listed for $22.5 million in 2015, the house has been for sale. This summer, the cost was reduced twice: in June, to $16.25 million, and in July, to $14.85 million. 

 

 

According to the Dukes County Registry of Deeds, the purchase price is $11.75 million.
