The proposed guitar-shaped hotel tower for The Mirage by Hard Rock International has advanced. The Clark County Zoning Commission approved a measure on August 16 that permits new growth.

Plans by Hard Rock for the resort, which it currently manages after entering a partnership last year, include for a 660-foot-tall, 600-room building along Las Vegas Boulevard. According to planning records, the hotel in the form of a guitar will feature 96,000 square feet of shops and restaurants and 49,000 square feet of gaming space. The resort will also have a spa, a fitness facility, and a salon.

In an earlier statement to commissioners, Hard Rock representative Jennifer Lazovich stated that the high-rise will be constructed “right where the existing volcano is.” She also mentioned that the business planned to “modernize and theme” the remaining portions of the property to fit the guitar tower. Her client has claimed that it plans to convert The Mirage into a resort using the Hard Rock name.

The proposed skyscraper is intended to resemble black-to-back guitars with “brightly lit strings,” according to a letter to the corporation from Lazovich, a land-use attorney with the law firm Kaempfer Crowell. It would also have floor-to-ceiling glass panes.

For more than $1 billion in cash, Hard Rock acquired MGM Resorts International’s operations for The Mirage in December. Vici Properties, which is in charge of the Mirage’s real estate, has agreed with Hard Rock that the first year’s rent will be $90 million.

A guitar-shaped tower was planned for the site when Hard Rock announced their purchase of the Mirage in late 2021. The company is well-known for its enormous decorative guitars, and it has already built a 450-foot-tall hotel tower in Florida that is designed like a guitar, similar to the one that is anticipated for Las Vegas.

Until Hard Rock International completes the refurbishment and rebranding, the resort will be known as The Mirage.
