Exploring VY-01: A Carbon-Neutral Superyacht Concept with a Green Heart

The VY-01, a carbon-neutral superyacht prototype with a “garden-like” interior, was revealed by German design studio 3deluxe.

Studio Ghibli characterized the idea as a “floating garden of Eden” when it debuted at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show. The open layout contains a greenhouse and a vegetable garden.

Studio officials said, “Climate change is compelling industries to reevaluate their operations.”

The project’s focus on nature is reflected in the interior design of the boat, which “defies many yacht design conventions.”

Thanks to the sensor-controlled louvres that enclose the superstructure, the inside is bright and airy for guests. In addition, there is a sunbathing space and solar panels covering 470 square meters on the VY-01’s sundeck.

By a range of 3,240 nautical miles, the design will be propelled by fuel cells powered by hydrogen and refueled by bio-methanol. Since electric engines produce no audible noise, noise pollution is greatly reduced.

The infinity pool at the beach club has a stepped sitting area for shade.
