China’s Towering Skyscraper: A Supermodel of Architectural Extravagance

The Canton Tower is a television tower that stands in the Hai Chau District of Guangzhou, China, close to the Pearl River. It began operations in 2010, at a height of 604 meters (with the main construction reaching 450 meters and the antenna extending over 150 meters). The grand quantity of money put into the Canton Tower is an enormous $450 million.

The original plan called for the building to be an astonishing 610 meters tall, but officials voiced worries about the building’s effect on airport safety. Because of this, the tower’s antenna was brought down, bringing the total height down to 604 meters. Canton Tower is now the second-tallest TV tower in the world, behind Japan’s Tokyo Skytree.

Canton Tower took six years to build and was designed by the Amsterdam company IBA in tandem with the London business Arup. In addition to its use in broadcasting, the tower serves a variety of other purposes, such as an observation deck, a place to dine, an exposition hall, a shopping center, a movie theater, and wireless transmission equipment.

Therefore, the Guangzhou Television Tower has long been a popular tourist destination, but few people have the courage to go visit the tower and try out its world-record-setting characteristics for themselves.

At ground level, you’ll find the exhibition hall, retail outlets, and cafes. At heights between 80 and 170 meters, guests may enjoy a variety of dining options and the highest 4D theater in the world. Above 424 meters, there is a spinning restaurant that can seat 400 people at once, making it a fascinating tourist destination.

Different perspectives of the city may be had from the various observation levels of the tower. At 449 and 454 meters above ground, the tower’s highest floors have indoor and outdoor observation decks.
