Admiring the bird’s nest villa floating around the ‘tree of life’ in the DNA nature-oriented resort in Mexico will make you surprised

Following the nature-filled ‘Cocoon’ hotel, Barcelona-based architecture firm DNA is revealing another resort design called ‘Tree of Life’ in Tulum, Mexico.

Fully embracing the local forest, the project comprises ten ‘nest’ villas and twenty hotel rooms clustered around a tree-shaped structure that serves as the centerpiece of the complex. Hanging walkways allow users to wander the grounds and immerse themselves in the natural environment, enhancing the experience.

DNA’s ‘Life Tree’ project came from the desire to create a novel, nature-based experience. From a conceptual standpoint, the architects sought a union between nature and architecture, an ‘architecture’ as they called it.

Inspired by bird’s nests, the design presents a complex of ten cantilevered villas surrounded by vegetation and centered around the ‘tree of life’ at the heart of the resort.

These villas form the upper floors of the resort. On the ground floor, there are many common spaces to relax and enjoy the surroundings such as a natural swimming pool, gym club, spa, restaurant, and lounge bar. The arrangement of the nests according to height allows for maximum views of the natural landscape, in a quiet and restrained setting.

‘The set of volumes is arranged in a way that promotes the inclusion of accessible spaces within the overall outdoor space, allowing the understanding of architecture as something that can coexist with nature.’ the studio explains.

‘From the outside, we are looking for mimeticism with the forms of nature, as well as the materials it shows us so that everything forms a unified whole, immersed in nature .’
