Jeff Bezos Sets Record with $68 Million Purchase on Miami Beach’s ‘Billionaire Bunker’ Island

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump may gain another wealthy Florida neighbor. Bloomberg reports that Jeff Bezos and his helicopter-flying fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, secretly bought a Miami Beach waterfront house for $68 million on Indian Creek Island. A few months after Bezos received his half-billion-dollar yacht, Koru, and the couple got engaged, the off-market sale was consummated in June.

The acquisition sets a new price record for the ultra-exclusive island enclave, known as the “Billionaire Bunker” for its unique number of billionaires who own residences. Previous record $49.9 million was reached in 2019.

Less than 30 waterfront residences surround a private 18-hole golf course on the island, which can only be reached by boat or bridge. Security is crucial, thus the bridge entry is closely guarded and a private security unit patrols the island on land and sea 24/7.

Tax records and other sources show the single-story home was erected in 1965 and enlarged in 1985 to 10,000 square feet with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It was not listed. The 2.75-acre two-parcel spread has a lengthy driveway that goes under a porte cochère at the front of the home and a secondary approach to the garage. A waterside pool is available.

Bezos is also apparently interested in the nearby home, a bigger and more luxurious 19,000-square-foot mansion that sold for $28 million in 2014 and is currently listed for $85 million.

Kushner and Trump are renting a condo while renovating the 8,500-square-foot Indian Creek Island home they bought in 2021 for $24 million. Last year, former Victoria Secret model Adriana Lima sold for $40 million to Colombian banker Jaime Gilinski, who now owns five contiguous properties on the island. Julio Iglesias, Carl Icahn, Tom Brady, Edward Lampert, Don Shula, and Norman Braman are other islanders.
