Places to Visit on England's Jurassic Coast: A Weekend in Branscombe, Devon - Gallop Around The Globe

When I get an email from Travelzoo, I always take a moment to read through their daily deals while I drink my tea in the morning.  Sometimes when I click on the “city breaks” link, I quickly realize that I could plan a similar trip for the same price or even less, and I would have more choices for where to stay.

Sometimes their package deals to places on my wish list make me want to go because I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do them myself for less money. But then I remembered how much I enjoy the freedom and flexibility of going alone and making my plans, and I decided I didn’t want to give up this.

But on this particular day, right before Christmas, the following deal showed up in their daily deals email, and it caught my eye.

Even though my mom’s side of the family is from nearby Dorset, I haven’t visited Devon. The only times I’ve been there are to see a fair in Ottery St. Marys and spend the day in nearby Exeter. Certainly, I had not been anywhere along the Jurassic Coast (that I can remember!).

Also, Stu’s birthday was coming up soon. He doesn’t like city breaks, but he does love the coast.  So I thought, “Hmm, this might be a good idea for a birthday present for him.”

As I read on, I learned that the seaside getaway took place in the town of Branscombe, which is described as “one of the most relaxing and picturesque villages on the Jurassic Coast.”
