Navagio Beach is a secret beach on the Greek island of Zakynthos. It is in the Smugglers Cove area. In 1980, the Greek Navy was chasing the ship Panagiotis, but it ran aground right there. There was a rumor that the ship was carrying illegal goods, such as smokes. The ship’s captain disputed this, saying that the ship sank because of bad weather that made it hard to see.

The ship was left behind, and you can still find it on the beach, rusty and lying on the white sand of Navagio in front of the beautiful blue water. Because of this event, the beach is also called Shipwreck, which means “wrecked ship.”

Navagio Beach is one of the most photographed and beautiful beaches in the world. There are two ways to see it: from a clifftop viewpoint with a view of the whole beach, or by stepping on the sand for real. The beach can only be reached by boat, though, so it takes a little work to get there.
