The castle of Oberhofen is right next to Lake Thun. A keep from around 1200 is part of the beautiful castle complex that has a long and interesting past. The castle looks the way it does now because the Neuchatel-Prussian noble family de Pourtalès bought it in 1844 and turned it into a summer home. In 1954, a museum was opened inside the castle to tell the stories of people who used to live there. No matter the weather, the interesting exhibits are worth seeing. You can also take tours of the castle and its grounds.

The park has a unique pergola made of hornbeams, as well as conifers, deciduous trees, and foreign redwoods. You can walk between the bright flowers and through the trees. Visit the gardener’s house and the chalet for the children of the wealthy. In the gravel court next to the pergola with lime trees, there is a play place for kids today. There are beautiful views of the Bernese Alps from the English park that surrounds the castle. This is one of the most beautiful parks in the Bernese Oberland because the weather is so nice.
